Outstanding Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1820, thin-walled, highly ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and arched tab handles, lavishly-decorated with brushed horizontal tulip motifs around the body. Cobalt highlights surrounding handles. Area below one handle decorated with a vertical tulip and area below opposite handle decorated with a curved line extending from terminal to terminal. A significant spider crack to one side extending partway onto the other side. This damage includes some shallow chipping along the crack. An additional, approximately 3" x 2 1/2" X-shaped line to shoulder on one side. A 7/8" chip to one handle. H 12 3/4".
