Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised and Impressed Decoration, Stamped "G. BENTON / & / L. STEWART / HARTFORD," CT origin, circa 1815, ovoid jug with footed base, decorated with a large incised design of a tulip plant on the front, beside a series of impressed key tips. A second flowering plant appears on the side of the jug. One of a few examples of stoneware by this partnership that we have offered, this work features unusually fine decoration. Restoration to spout and handle, including some overspray of restoration to paint to reverse shoulder. Unrestored base chips. Some surface wear to midsection. H 14 3/4".
