Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-in-Urn Decoration, Stamped "N. WHITE, & CO. BINGHAMTON," NY State origin, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a bird with raised wing, seated within a wreath atop an open-handed, crosshatched urn. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Ex-Adam Weitsman Collection; underside with black marker inscription, "Collection of ADAM JOEL WEITSMAN #411." Areas of painted touch-up to decoration. A glazed-over, in-the-firing iron ping to right of bird's wing. A small in-the-firing iron ping to left of decoration. A glazed-over, in-the-firing iron ping to shoulder on reverse. A 5 1/2" Y-shaped line to underside. A 4 1/2" in-the-firing surface line from rim on interior, not visible on exterior. H 13 3/8".
