Extremely Rare Small-Sized Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Seated Dog Decoration, Stamped "EDMANDS & CO.," Charlestown, MA, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a heavily-striped dog with upswept tail, seated on a stylized, grassy lawn. The first Edmands piece featuring a dog that we have seen. Includes Northeastern salt-glazed stoneware lid, probably not original to the jar. A 7/8" rim chip on reverse. An in-the-firing chip (contact mark) to underside. Chips to edge and knob of lid. H (excluding lid) 9 1/4".
