Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON / UTICA, N.Y.," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a central flower surrounded by four large leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. The four-leafed decoration on this crock is an unusual variant on this pottery's typical flowering plant designs. A 1 1/2" chip to interior of rim. Chips to exterior of rim. Staining to surface. A minor in-the-firing ping near base on side of crock. Some wear to cobalt. H 13 3/8".
