Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER. / ROCHESTER.N.Y.," circa 1855, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flowering plant bearing tulip and daisy shaped blossoms. Slip-trailed "3" above. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Some fry to cobalt. A worn area to cobalt in center of one blossom. A 5" hairline from rim on front. A tiny, glazed-over rim nick on front. A 1 3/4" in-the-firing flake to interior of rim. A 1 3/8" in-the-firing surface flake near base on front. Minor staining. Minor surface wear to reverse. H 10 5/8".
