One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX. / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, brush-decorated with a plant bearing a pointed blossom composed of graduated vertical strokes. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A Y-shaped line on underside continuing 3 1/2" up reverse. A 2 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse. Rim chips. Staining throughout. A 2" Y-shaped surface line on front, not visible on interior. Residue from use on interior. A minor in-the-firing ping to bottom edge. H 8 1/8".
