Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, brush-decorated with a flowering plant bearing three tulips and a fourth blossom composed of graduated spots. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Essentially as-made condition with in-the-firing contact marks to front and a 1 1/4" and 7/8" in-the-firing chip (contact mark) to handle and top of spout. Some minor fry to cobalt. Minor, old blue paint residue to reverse. H 15".
