Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Wreath Decoration, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK," early 19th century, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout and semi-rounded mouth, featuring the large cobalt-highlighted maker's mark of Clarkson Crolius, Sr., decorated with an incised wreath-like design at the base of the cobalt-highlighted maker's mark. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A fine example of Crolius's work with classic incising. Closely-related to lot 120 in Crocker Farm's November 15, 2024 auction. A 1 1/4" in-the-firing base chip two small in-the-firing base chips, one of which is glazed over. Typical in-the-firing flaws to surface, including a few pings. Some crazing to underside, likely in-the-firing. Minor traces of old white paint to surface. H 15".
