Anna Pottery Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Pig Flask with Incised Railroad Map, Anna, IL, Dated 1890, molded flask in the form of a reclining pig with spout at rear, anatomically-correct underside, and incised details to face and hooves, the surface dipped in Albany slip and incised on one side with the inscription: St Louis the future Great / With a little good Old Rye / in a Pigs / 1890." Remainder of pig decorated with an elaborate incised railroad map of the Midwestern U.S., including the following landmarks: Miss River, Rock Island, Lasalle, C & A, Chester, Gd Tower, Purcy, O & M, Belleville, Springfld, Pinckville, Ava, Murphys, Bloomington, Decatur, Vandalia, ICRR, alto, Jonesboro, Elca(?), Cairo, Mound City, Junction, anna, Carbondale, Duquoin, Tamaroa, Centralia, Salem, Odin, Champagne, KKKee (Kankakee), Pullman, Chicago, Tunnel Hill, C V & C, Vincennes, Ohio River, metropolis, Louisville, and Cincinnati. This work features one of the more detailed maps that we have seen on an Anna pig. A chip to pig's snout. A larger chip and two tiny nicks to spout on reverse. Otherwise excellent condition.
