Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Drape Decoration, Stamped Twice "C. CROLIUS / STONEWARE / MANUFACTURER / Manhattan-Wells. / NEW YORK," early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a spotted drape motif. Impressed on front and reverse with Clarkson Crolius, Sr. maker's mark. A 7" Y-shaped crack below one handle, extending across underside where it forms an X-shaped crack, and then forming a wide crack on one decorated side, where it forms a Y extending to the shoulder. A 3" line from rim. Small in-the-firing rim chips. Areas of varnish to surface. H 12 1/2".
