Stoneware Jar with Impressed Fish Decoration, attributed to Jonathan Fenton, Boston, MA, late 18th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a lightly-impressed design of a fish highlighted in brushed cobalt. Additional brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Fine potting and desirable, early New England decoration. Heavy exfoliation to surface. Some additional exfoliation to interior shoulder. Staining to surface. An in-the-firing ping to top of rim along with a small glazed-over rim chip and post-firing rim chip. H 11 1/4".
