Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1840, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and ribbed lug handles, brush-decorated with a horizontal floral motif composed of tulips emanating from numerous leaves. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a wavy stripe of cobalt below each handle. Shoulder impressed with a six-gallon capacity mark beside an incised "X." Small rim chips. Several vertical lines to base area. Paint residue to surface. Some minor surface wear. H 16 1/2".
