Extremely Rare Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Inkstand with Pig's Head Stopper, Inscribed "Wm. Flynn," Summit County, OH origin, early 20th century, slab-built form resting on four feet, featuring an octagon well with molded stopper in the form of a pig's head and raised tray for holding two pens. Surface covered in a reddish-brown Albany slip glaze with incised tree on front of well and incised stylized sun patterns on each side of pen tray. Underside incised "Wm. Flynn," probably referring to the William T. Flynn (1876-1931) who appears in the 1900 census as a day laborer in Akron. The only adult William Flynn in Summit County at the time, he appears living near potters working within the massive Akron stoneware industry. Flynn probably made this object, or it could have been made as a gift for him. This inkstand was likely produced at the same pottery as an incised stoneware bank sold in Crocker Farm, Inc.'s October 26, 2019 auction, lot 121. An exceptional and highly imaginative folk art form. Excellent condition with a minor chip to proper right ear of pig's head, and a few minor chips to inkstand. L 4 3/8" ; W 4 1/4" ; H 3 3/4".
