Rare Pair of Tanware Figures, American, second half 19th century, molded in the form of Scottish highlanders, a man with bagpipe and dog at his feet and woman reading a book with lamb at her feet, each decorated with Albany slip highlights over tan clay. Man with brushed Albany slip X on reverse. Pieces from this specific mold are commonly attributed to New York State, primarily W.H. Farrar of Geddes; however, the glaze treatment and tan clay used is not typical of the region. Large reglued breaks and two small losses to bottom third of man with bagpipes. Woman figure in excellent condition with very minor base chipping. H (of woman figure) 9".
