Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, ovoid jar with footed base, flared collar, and ribbed lug handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with pairs of tulips below a series of dashes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a wavy line of cobalt below each handle. A thin 5 3/4" in-the-firing crack to underside, extending 4 3/4" up base, where it forms a cross. Two minor, glazed-over base chips. An approximately 2 1/4" vertical line to base. One handle with a minor chip, a short line, and minor wear. A chip to opposing handle. A few filled and color chips to exterior of rim. Small colored chips to interior of rim and a small, uncolored chip to interior of rim. Some light surface wear. A minor in-the-firing lime ping to front and reverse. H 14 1/4".
