One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Clover Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1865, ovoid pitcher with slightly-flared collar and semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated with a two-stemmed clover plant ascending the front and swags flanking the spout. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Early metal banding fitted around collar, base, and running vertically on the reverse to secure a long vertical crack from rim on reverse, descending from a small rim chip. Profuse crazing to collar. Handle with a thin crack to midsection including a few small chips, as well as a faint horizontal line to base of handle. Faint crazing to base of pitcher. An approximately 3" horizontal line to midsection of pitcher on reverse. Oxidization to metal banding. H 10 3/4".
