Exceedingly Rare Miniature Stoneware Presentation Pitcher with Incised and Brushed-Cobalt Floral Decorations, attributed to Elisha Parr, Baltimore, MD, circa 1820, thin-walled, ovoid pitcher with tooled rim, decorated on the front with an incised design of a diamond-shaped flower with cobalt-highlighted ovals to the interior of the blossom, flanked by the incised and cobalt-highlighted name, "Margrette McNichol." Body further decorated with brushed horizontal tulips in the Parr style. Draped cobalt foliate decoration to collar and cobalt striping to rim and base of collar. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. The finest example of Elisha Parr's work that we have ever offered, this pitcher is made extraordinary by its petite size, presentation inscription, and incised decoration. To our knowledge, no other incised examples of this Parr family member's work are known. Rim and spout chips. An in-the-firing contact mark to pitcher's proper left side. A small spot of raised clay to spout. Two minor nicks to handle. Minor staining. H 5".
