Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Pitcher and Bowl Set, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, wheel-thrown pitcher with footed base, upswept spout, and ribbed strap handle with applied thumbrest and spurs. Surface dipped in cream-colored slip with overlying streaks of copper and manganese and covered in a clear lead glaze. Bowl with strap handles embellished with faux screwhead terminals and applied balls of clay, the rear of the bowl with applied soap dish surmounted by "fiddlehead" scrollwork flanked by balls of clay. Surface of bowl dipped in a cream-colored slip, decorated with streaks of copper and manganese and covered in a clear lead glaze. Pitcher with a very large restored section to spout area as well as some typical unrestored wear. Bowl with a very large restored section to reverse with a sealed 4 1/4" crack extending from it, including full restoration to one applied clay orb. Significant restoration to soap dish. Restoration below proper right handle on interior and exterior. Two small chips to base. Minor wear. H (of pitcher) 10 1/2" ; H (of bowl) 7" ; Diameter (of bowl) 12 1/4".
