Fine Glazed Redware Vase, Stamped "WINCHESTER / POTTERIES / VA," Theodore "Thedy" Fleet, Round Hill Pottery, Frederick County, VA, circa 1930, stylishly-potted vase with footed base, ovoid body, and tall collar with pronounced, squared rim molding, the surface decorated with splashed manganese and covered in a heavy lead glaze featuring colorful greenish hues. Reddish-brown lead-and-manganese-glazed interior. Rim molding embellished with coggled vertical lines below a series of horizontal dashes. Underside impressed with "WINCHESTER / POTTERIES / VA" mark within an apple. Among the finer potted and glazed Round Hill Pottery pieces that we have offered. Provenance: From a forty-five-year VA collection. Essentially as-made condition. A 1 3/4" in-the-firing surface crack in underside, extending approximately 3 3/4" diagonally up base area of vase. A second in-the-firing surface crack, measuring 1 1/4" on underside and extending approximately 2 1/2" up base. A 3/8" in-the-firing fissure to exterior of rim. Both are not visible on interior.
