Scarce and Fine Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Slip-Trailed Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA," Wilkes Street Pottery, Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-squared rim, decorated with an unusual slip-trailed design of seven horizontal tulips flanked by two rows of spots. Desirable size and strong decoration, featuring desirable slip cup application. Provenance: From a forty-five-year VA collection. Excellent condition with a minor chip to underside, a minor in-the-firing ping and minor contact mark near base, and two spots of gritty in-the-firing residue to shoulder. H 7 1/4".
