Slip-Decorated Redware Spaniel, PA origin, 19th century, hollow, slip-cast figure of a seated spaniel, decorated throughout with yellow and manganese slip spots and highlights to face, ears, collar, and locket, all under a clear lead glaze. A related spaniel is illustrated in the 1993 poster, "REDWARE: BIRDS AND BEASTS," by Richard Flanders Smith. A 2 1/2" in-the-firing flake to bottom edge on reverse. Some in-the-firing clay residue to base. A glaze flake to proper right ear that is varnished over. A minor nick to opposing ear. H 7 1/8".
