Highly Unusual Redware Churn with Elaborate Slip Decoration, Dated "1799," probably American, possibly European, 1799, narrow-bodied, cylindrical form with raised band to shoulder and applied circular handles, decorated on the front and reverse in slip-trailed cream-colored slip with various floral and wavy line motifs. Midsection on one side features a sun or floral motif in cream-colored slip at the center of the date, "1799." Clear lead glaze to interior. Provenance: Ex-Hattie Brunner; Alderfer Auctions, Hatfield, PA, March 9, 2006, lot 565. Rounded knob portion of one handle missing. Base chips. Two large, shallow flakes to underside. Light wear to rim. H 12 5/8".
