Very Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Lidded Sugar Bowl, Pennsylvania or Southern U.S. origin, circa 1860, petite, ovoid form with footed base, tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated throughout with a four-spotted cobalt pattern. Brushed cobalt band to shoulder and rim and highlights along edges of handles. Includes original stepped lid with rounded finial and elaborate spotted decoration. Exceptional form. Bowl with a 5/8" rim chip, in otherwise excellent condition. Lid in as-made condition with a glazed-over chip to finial and small in-the-firing ping to edge. H (including lid) 4".
