Stoneware Crock with Freehand Cobalt Decoration, attributed to James H. Miller, Brandenburg, KY, circa 1860, pail-shaped form with squared rim and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a series of stylized floral motifs above a band of conjoined dashes and series of inverted swags. A 4" Y-shaped crack on underside forming a 4 3/4" Y-shaped crack on reverse. Minor rim chips. Exfoliation to interior base area. Bottom edge of crock with two minuscule nicks and a minuscule in-the-firing ping. H 7" ; Diam. 9".
