Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "A.P. DONAGHHO. / PARKERSBURG / W. VA," circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a stenciled design of a Federal eagle with shield across its chest, clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons. Stenciled above with A.P. Donaghho maker's mark in block stenciling. Desirable decoration and form, featuring excellent color. Some small runs to cobalt in stenciling. A 5/8" rim chip on reverse. Small chips to interior of rim. A few very minor nicks to inner wax sealer rim. A 2" hairline on underside continuing 4 1/2" up far right side of jar's front. H 9 3/4".
