Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar, attributed to the Hinkle-Mort Pottery, Jefferson County, TN, circa 1850-1870, ovoid jar with tall collar, flared rim, and heavily-ribbed handles with depressed terminals. In her notes, Wahler states, "Sherds from the Jefferson County site exactly match the handles, glaze and body. . . Steve and Sam have found that Aaron Mills was potting at this site around 1860. I believe this piece is before his time. . . I have purchased another jar '06 which is a match except for a wider mouth. Same potter. Another of this form with these handles sold at Case 2011 while this exhibit was ongoing. It came from the Mort family who lived on site."
