Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Crock, Stamped "J.A. ROBERTS. / COOKEVILLE / TENN.," late 19th or early 20th century, slightly-flared crock with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, impressed on the bottom half with large J.A. Roberts maker's mark. Exterior and interior surface covered in a mottled brown Albany slip glaze. Exhibited: Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Museum of East Tennessee History, May 16-October 30, 2011. A large L-shaped crack on underside, forming a 5 1/4" x 1 3/4" sideways L at base on front. Some small in-the-firing pings to surface. Light wear to bottom fo rim. A 1 1/8" flake to interior of rim. A large, shallow flake to interior base. Additional exfoliation to interior. H 7 1/8".
