Rare Glazed Redware Canning Jar, attributed to the Cain Pottery, Sullivan County, TN, circa 1840-1880, ovoid form with tall collar, tooled banding, and raised "wax sealer" rim, the surface covered in a reddish-brown lead-and-manganese glaze. Exhibited: Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Museum of East Tennessee History, May 16-October 30, 2011. Significant chipping to base. Wear to surface and rim. An adhered piece of clay at base. H 9".
