Rare Early-Period Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug with Two Rows of Teeth, Stamped "B.B. CRAIG / VALE, N.C.," early fourth quarter 20th century, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a hand-modeled and applied face including orb-like eyes placed within strap-shaped eyelids, arching eyebrows with incised details, ears, nose with carved nostrils, and open mouth with broken china teeth. The placement of two rows of the teeth in the mouth as opposed to one identifies this jug as a rarer, earlier example of Craig's work. Surface covered in an olive-colored alkaline glaze with rutile runs descending from ears, chin, and handle. Underside impressed with Burlon B. Craig signature. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 10".
