Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Inkwell or String Holder, Stamped Twice "PROPST POTTERY / VALE, / NORTH CAROLINA," circa 1930, small-sized, domed form with narrow spout and straight and wavy line incising to shoulder, the surface covered in a mottled brown alkaline glaze. Impressed with two different Propst Pottery maker's marks on underside. A shallow 1 3/4" flake to bottom edge. A small spout chip. A few in-the-firing contact marks to shoulder. H 4".
