Six-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Incised Foliate Decoration, probably OH origin, third quarter 19th century, wide, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and arched lug handles, decorated with a large incised design of a plant with drooping leaves. Thin sealed cracks to bottom half of jar on front. A large Y-shaped crack on reverse, continuing 2 1/4" up reverse. A 4 3/4" x 3" flake to reverse. Two small chips to interior of rim. Two chips to each handle. A short, tight spider crack to rim area on front. A small chip to underside at edge. Some minor traces of old gray and white paint. H 12 7/8".
