Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Two-Color Slip Decoration and 1867 Date, Upper Alton, IL origin, 1867, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and heavily-ribbed handles, brush-decorated with a cobalt floral motif below the date "1867." Dipped reddish-brown slip to upper body. Provenance: Purchased by Wahler at Crocker Farm, Inc., March 31, 2023, lot 275. An approximately 5" diagonal hairline at base on reverse, extending underside and 3 1/2" up left side of jar at base. A small chip and minor in-the-firing ping to one handle. A minor in-the-firing ping to rim. H 13 1/2".
