Glazed Redware Jug, Carter County, TN origin, circa 1820-1840, ovoid jug with footed base, tall spout with semi-rounded mouth, and deeply-grooved handle with pointed lower terminal, the surface covered in a mottled reddish-brown lead-and-manganese glaze. Exhibited: Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Museum of East Tennessee History, May 16-October 30, 2011. Literature: Illustrated in Wahler, Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Part One, p. 42, fig. 32, p. 193, fig. 32. Provenance: Originally found in Carter County, TN. A 3 1/4" x 2 3/4" recessed in-the-firing contact mark to front. One spout chip. A sealed 6" crack from spout including a small flake to shoulder. Handle with spots of wear and a small chip. Base chips. H 12".
