Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Dated 1841, attributed to Smith & Day, Norwalk, CT, 1841, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with slip-trailed vines and scalloping above the date, 1841. Rim is out-of-round. Crazing to midsection on proper right side of jar extending partway onto front. A 3 1/2" firing crack from rim on reverse. A 3 1/4" hairline from rim on reverse. A chip to underside at edge. Small rim chips. Salt drips to surface. H 8 1/2".
