One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical form with rounded shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with conjoined foliate motifs on the front and reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and swag decoration below each handle. Two 2 3/4" cracks from rim. One post-firing rim chip. Other pre-firing rim chips, which were smoothed and glazed over. Two minor adjacent in-the-firing base chips. A thin 3 1/2" crack on underside, continuing 9" up one side of churn. H 11 3/4".
