Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Cake Crock, Stenciled "SOUTHERN / STONEWARE / POTTERY," attributed to the Donaghho Pottery, Parkersburg, WV, circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and arched lug handles, decorated with a stenciled geometric banner on the front. Stenciled on the side with oval "SOUTHERN / STONEWARE / POTTERY" maker's mark above a two-gallon capacity mark. Only the second example of stoneware bearing this stamp that we have offered. A 1" base chip. A small chip to top of rim and some light wear to interior of rim. Exfoliation to underside and interior. H 7 1/4" ; Diam. 10 1/2".
