One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H.C. SMITH / ALEXA / D.C.," circa 1835, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, rounded rim, and arched tab handles, brush-decorated with a sweeping floral motif across the front. Three floral devices to shoulder on reverse and one below proper right handle. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 3/4" hole in underside. A tight 5 1/2" x 5" H-shaped crack to front / proper right side. A large, filled top-to-bottom spider crack on reverse / proper left side of jar. A minor rim chip, possibly in-the-firing. H 9 1/4".
