Two-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Brown family, Alleghany County, VA, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, angular rim molding and two vertical strap handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a diagonal floral motif featuring an open-centered bud. Inscribed "2" beside decoration. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Chipping to rim. A 1 3/4" x 1 5/8" base chip. A few other small base chips. H 8" ; Diam. (across rim) 10".
