Unusual Glazed Redware Jar with Lid, probably Greene County, TN origin, circa 1820-1850, vasiform jar with footed base and flared rim, the upper body embellished with four rows of incised banding, the lead-glazed surface featuring mottled light-olive to yellow coloration. Includes original glazed, domed redware lid. Exhibited: Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Museum of East Tennessee History, May 16-October 30, 2011. Literature: Illustrated in Wahler, Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Part One, p. 57, fig. 51, p. 171, pl. 21, p. 197, fig. 51. Jar with sealed spider crack around bottom third of vessel, extending to underside, a short hairline from rim, chipping and wear around rim, glaze loss to body, and shallow chips and wear to foot. Lid with heavy chipping to edge as well as chips and wear to finial. H 8 1/4".
