Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "E.W. MORT / ALUM WELLS, VA," circa 1880-1893, tapering jar with narrow mouth, semi-squared rim, and arched tab handles, the surface covered in a clear salt glaze. Impressed at shoulder with rare E.W. Mort maker's mark within a circle surrounding a star. Exhibited: Legacy in Clay: Pottery of Washington County, Virginia, William King Regional Arts Center, Abingdon, VA, July 22-November 20, 2005. Excellent condition with one small rim chip. H 10 7/8".
