Two Stoneware Jars with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Stephen B. Sweeney, Henrico County, VA, circa 1838-1868, both of ovoid form with tooled shoulders, squared rims, and lug handles, brush-decorated with stylized flower blossom motifs on the front and reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Taller with a large rim chip and two smaller rim chips, a small chip to one handle, small surface flakes, a short, faint line at base, and some felt residue to interior of rim. Shorter with two small rim chips, light surface wear, a few minor in-the-firing pings, and a short, faint line at base extending across underside and partway up reverse side of jar. Both with faint areas to cobalt. H (of taller) 9 3/4".
