One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Tree-of-Life Decoration, Inscribed "H Lowndes / Manufactor / Petersburg / Va," circa 1845, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, featuring the slip-trailed signature of Henry Lowndes on one side and a brushed floral motif on reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 3/8" filled hole under proper right handle, leading to a large filled flake on interior. Faint traces of old red paint. H 9 1/2".
