Rare Manganese-Decorated Redware Flowerpot, Stamped "WINCHESTER VA," attributed to Theodore "Thedy" Fleet, Round Hill Pottery, Frederick County, VA, circa 1928, flare-rimmed pot with crimped molding to shoulder and coggled treatment to the rim and saucer base, the surface decorated with splashed manganese under a clear lead glaze. Impressed with early-period Round Hill pottery maker's mark on underside, reading "WINCHESTER VA." A rarely-seen form for this maker, harkening back to the prolific production of flowerpots in late 19th century Strasburg. Small chips to shoulder molding. A 2 1/4" surface line to underside, likely in-the-firing and not visible on interior. A 2 1/4" surface line to interior shoulder, likely in-the-firing and not visible on exterior. A small flake to saucer, likely in-the-firing. Other minor wear. H 6 7/8".
