Scarce Shenandoah Valley Redware Jar, Inscribed "Anthony / Bacher / 3," Anthony Weis Bacher, Winchester, VA or Mechanicstown (now Thurmont), MD, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with large lug handles and tooling to shoulder and rim, the interior and exterior coated in a clear lead glaze with additional old red paint to exterior. Underside incised with Anthony Bacher signature. An unusual form for this maker. Heavy chipping to one handle. A possible tight crack to one terminal of same handle. A few small flakes to shoulder. A few small base chips. Paint wear. H 9 1/4".
