Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "A. KEISTER & .CO / STRASBURG, VA.," circa 1850, ovoid pitcher with flaring collar and triple-beaded rim, brush-decorated with a three-blossomed tulip plant ascending the front along with horizontal tulips above. Cobalt band around rim molding and highlights to handle terminals. Desirable form, size, and maker. Provenance: Purchased from Joan Darnall Country Antiques and Interiors, Akron, OH, March 30, 1984. Very nice condition with a small spout chip, a minor chip to molding at base of collar, and a few in-the-firing contact marks to surface including a 7/8" in-the-firing chip to shoulder on reverse. H 14 1/4".
