Exceptional Four-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Profuse Incised Decoration, attributed to the Jacob Eichelberger Pottery, Talladega County, AL origin, circa 1875, ovoid jar with flared rim and arched lug handles, extravagantly-decorated throughout with combed incising in the form of five circumferential bands interspersed with overlapping wavy bands. Incised "4" to shoulder. Surface covered in an olive-colored alkaline glaze with traces of rutile to front, handles, and interior of rim. Among the finest displays of the region's distinctive incised decorative treatment. Excellent condition with only minor flaws. Some slight warping to underside, a tiny nick to proper right handle, a tiny in-the-firing ping to front, and some minor staining to base. H 17".
