Rare Lead-Glazed Redware Pitcher, attributed to Nathan Dicks, Randolph County, NC, circa 1875-1910, ovoid pitcher with footed base, flared rim, and wide strap handle with distinctive elongated lower terminal. Midsection incised with a sinewave motif between two straight lines. Lead-glazed surface features olive coloration with profuse orange spotting throughout. Appealing form and outstanding color. Few examples from this potting family have survived. Ancestral relatives of Dicks associated or intermarried with other major figures in the North Carolina Quaker potting community, including William Dennis, Henry Watkins, and members of the Beard family. Very nice condition with some light surface wear, a minor chip to interior of rim, and a small chip to foot with a 2" crack extending from it on underside. H 8 7/8".
