Glazed Redware Jar, attributed to the Hinkle-Mort Pottery, Jefferson County, TN, circa 1855-1860, semi-ovoid jar with raised shoulder molding and tooled rim, decorated around the upper half with incised straight and wavy lines. Surface covered in a dark-brown lead-and-manganese glaze. Exhibited: Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Museum of East Tennessee History, May 16-October 30, 2011. Literature: Illustrated in Wahler, Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Part One, p. 66, fig. 63, and p. 200, fig. 63. A 1 3/4" loss to rim with a 1 1/4" hairline descending from it. Two rim chips and rim wear. Light surface wear. Light exfoliation to base area. H 8 1/4".
