Scarce Four-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Lid, attributed to Landrum Brick and Pottery, Columbia, SC, mid 19th century, ovoid jar with flared rim and arched lug handles, the surface covered in a light-green alkaline glaze with iron spotting. Shoulder incised with four vertical slash marks denoting four gallons. Includes original alkaline-glazed stoneware lid, a rarity for pieces from this region. Jar with a restored 2" flake to exterior of rim, in otherwise excellent condition. Lid in very nice condition with a shallow 3/4" chip to top edge, a shallow 3/4" flake to underside along edge, and a minor nick to knob. H 14 1/4".
